I love complexity and ambiguity and much of my painting work is in pursuit of an elusive ballance between simplicity and multiple interpretations. Like meditation, my paintngs seek to capture the fleeting state between the conscious and unconscious. The “liminal state” or in-betwen state is powerful in it’s richness and ambiguity… my paintings often explore it in both subject and technique. “Liminal Entities” from mythology (the Minotaur, the Mermaid, the Jackelope) are litteral examples of bridging between two distinct worlds. This idea of bridging between sacred and profane, conscious and unconcious, is always in my mind when I paint and I find it endlessly rich in interpretations.
